On my Beginners Guide in Building a Website, I’ve mentioned about ” How to find a niche for beginners“. Finding the right niche is very important because this will be your first & most important step in making money online.

What is niche by the way? A niche is a general area of interest, a hobby, a passion, stuff people do. It can be a big niche like health, board games or rock climbing or tiny like orchid hunting and monkey spotting.

Anyway, lets get back to our topic  “Beginners Guide on How to Find a Niche”.

How do we get idea’s for a niche? How to find a niche? These are the top questions for all beginners who decided to make money online.

Finding a Niche for Beginners:

First, find a market that spends money, then find out what they want and give it to them.

Deciding on what product or service you will promote in a niche market should be based on a simple principle. There should be a demand for your product or service. You want to offer something that people actually need, something that will make their lives better, make them feel better physically, make them look better, or help them solve a problem.

The process I go through when looking for new niches to enter is as follows.

For starters, I’m always aware of trends and current events in the real world. I read several newspapers each day, many magazines, both general and niche-specific, I watch the news, I listen to the radio. Occasionally something that I hear or read will stick with me. I may jot down some notes, or draw a diagram to help me remember it. Sometimes I’ll call my phones voice mail and leave myself a message.

But at some point I’ll have several broad ideas to research. I want to look deeper. And I want to make sure there is a good market for them before I even think about creating a product.

Personally, I like to go to some online resources such as Google’s Hot Trends. And check out the hottest trends. Don’t worry, at this point you’re just looking for ideas.  So when you have found a products that appeals to you, You need to think of a sub niche.

Then, I go to eBay Pulse site to start looking at sub-niches.What I will do is select the category first (using the topics I’ve gathered from looking at the previous sites), then look for profitable sub-niches by then selecting a sub-category.

Next you need to find out if people in that niche are spending they’re money , So to do this I would enter the keyword of the niche into Google’s Keyword Tool. Its FREE.

Google keyword

For country, I would Target the US (English speaking) so you get the best result and biggest amount of traffic. Make sure the search results per month are over 1k and not over 100k searches as it will be hard to rank. But if you have a good SEO plan then you can go over 100k , Traffic Traffic or SERP attacks are good for keyword research because they also tell you how hard it will be to rank for that keyword so thats worthy to pay attention to.

Another good way you can check if people in your niche are spending money is to head over to Google and type the keyword into Google and hit search , If there are ad’s displaying on the right hand side or Top of the page selling products etc then this will tell you that people are actually spending money. So once you have an idea that people are spending money.

Take the top URL that comes up in the search and head over to Quantcast and enter the URL at the bottom. This will also give you an idea of the Age groups of the buyers and also the Male/Female statistics so you can target better. This is very good also for Facebook PPC if you wanted to setup a campaign.

Hope this beginners guide on how to find a niche helps some of you get a better idea on Niche Research.
